The former prime minister declared on Monday while speaking to a crowd in the province capital that if the authorities disobey the Supreme Court’s directives to hold elections [for the Punjab Assembly] on May 14 and violate the Constitution, there will be lawlessness in the nation.

He said, “Until the Constitution and the rule of law are restored, we will resort to public protests.

Imran led the procession from Liberty Chowk in Lahore to Nasir Bagh. Imran's party was forced from office in April of last year as a result of a vote of no confidence.

The rally, which was held to honour International Workers’ Day and show support for the Supreme Court, drew hundreds of PTI employees and fans.

The government and the PTI eventually sat across from each other at the table to select a date for general elections after the top court directed the political players to reach an agreement on conducting elections in the whole nation on the same day.

The PTI would accept to the idea of same-day elections provided the authorities agree to dissolve the legislatures before May 14 when we meet with them on Tuesday (today).

But if they don’t dissolve the legislatures by May 14 and try to push out the polls till after the budget, we’ll go to the Supreme Court and demand elections in Punjab and Khyber on May 14 instead.
The PTI leader, though, said he questioned the rulers’ motivations for working with the PTI and believed they were delaying elections until the PTI and Imran Khan were weak.

“They are avoiding the elections because they believe they will lose them. They are making attempts at my life, smearing me with bogus accusations, and harassing and arresting our workers and leaders in an effort to damage the party and remove me from public life.

  • He said, “They want to have elections only when they are confident they can win them.

He believed that if the Constitution were broken, the economy would further deteriorate; the people were already struggling due to extraordinary inflation in the country.
