President Alvi
The State Life Insurance Corporation's appeals were denied by President Dr. Arif Alvi on Wednesday, and he mandated that it pay three residents 3.2 million rupees in insurance claims.
Family members of Samina Shahzadi, Mohammad Mahfooz, and Sita, who are the complainants, acquired insurance policies worth Rs. 2.9 million, Rs. 198, Rs. 290, and Rs. 192,000, respectively, after the policyholders’ demise.
The State Life Insurance Corporation, on the other hand, had refused to give the money, alleging that the complainants were purposefully keeping their diseases from the heirs. Following that, the complainants went to the Federal Ombudsman, who gave them orders.
In response to the Ombudsman's rulings, State Life Insurance Corporation filed applications. The President later denied the petitions. In addition, he claimed that Muhammad Mahfooz's sister passed away three years and seven months after purchasing the insurance, Samina Shehzadi's husband passed away two years and two months after purchasing the policy, and Sita's husband passed away two years and two months after purchasing the policy. These claims were made in reference to COVID-19 rather than a brain tumour.
The president further stated that no life insurance policy could be contested once a two-year period had passed in accordance with the Insurance Ordinance. The three complainants' death insurance premiums should be paid by State Life in situations where the company's malfeasance was shown.
Three complainants who had been battling for their insurance claims for a while are relieved by the president’s decision.
It serves as a reminder to insurance firms that they cannot reject claims from customers without conducting a thorough investigation and gathering supporting documentation.
