KARACHI: Following the arrest of the former prime minister Imran Khan, demonstrations broke out in the port city, causing more than two dozen vehicles previous three days.
After the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman was detained on May 9, enraged party members violently protested the detention of their leader in many locations across the nation.
One of the cities where PTI supporters wreaked chaos was Karachi. According to information given by the police, the unruly demonstrators vandalised many cars on May 9, the day the PTI head was arrested in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust issue.
Two city buses, two water tankers, and the Rangers post in the city’s Nursery were all set on fire.
Along with burning more than two dozen motorbikes throughout the city, a vehicle carrying convicts was also set ablaze.
Ten police officers, including the superintendent of police (SP) and deputy superintendent of police at Sharea Faisal, were hurt when demonstrators set fire to a police vehicle on University Road on May 10.
Aftab Siddiqui, Raja Azhar, and Khurram Sher Zaman, leaders of the PTI, were among 400 persons named in more than 10 charges of burning, rioting, and interfering with government affairs. Additionally, roughly 250 individuals, including Ali Zaidi of the PTI, have been detained.
According to Junaid Ullah, director general of parks in Karachi, Shaara Faisal demonstrations caused significant tree damage and the burning of more than 70 trees.
