ISLAMABAD: According to ARY News, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has organised a demonstration against the Supreme Court (SC) but Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) and the current administration have been unable to reach an agreement on a location.
In an effort to urge PDM President Maulana Fazl ur Rehman to shift the location of tomorrow’s demonstration, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah met with him once more the next day.
After the meeting, Rana Sanaullah spoke with journalists and stated that the chiefs of all the parties in the ruling coalition will meet tomorrow to decide on the location of the demonstrations.
The minister added that the choice was made upon receipt of security agency reports regarding the demonstration.
Ishaq Dar, who took over the news conference, promised that the rallies against the Supreme Court (SC) will be peaceful. The JUI has promised that not even a pot would be damaged, he continued, adding that there won’t be any violence during the demonstration.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), turned to the federal government’s proposal to relocate tomorrow’s demonstration.
According to Ishaq Dar, the peace and order situation has been worse recently, and the federal administration prefers that PDM protest at D-Chowk rather than the Supreme Court (SC).
The government’s plea was refused by Maulana Fazl, who added that the site had already been announced and that the country will decide.
Convoys have left for Islamabad, he claimed, and the PDM employees would protest peacefully.
Earlier, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) requested permission from the neighbourhood district administration to stage a sit-in outside the Supreme Court’s buildings in Islamabad.
According to information, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the leader of the ruling coalition, has submitted an application for a public gathering at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.
The ruling party coalition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) wants to “hold a public gathering at D-Chowk, Islamabad on Monday at 10am,” according to ARY News.
Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, a former minister and PML-N leader, acknowledged that an application about the topic had been made to the relevant authorities.
He said that “PML-N workers from all over Islamabad will actively take part in the protest.”
After Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan was granted bail in various cases against him by the Islamabad High Court a day after his release on the instructions of a Supreme Court panel, PDM leader Maulana Fazl had scheduled a sit-in outside the top court on May 12.
