performance is remarkably similar to that of Gadar and Lagaan in 2001. While both Gadar movies are all-time classics, their rivals OMG 2 and Lagaan are also huge successes.

Gadar 2: The Katha Continues, directed by Anil Sharma and starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Manish Wadhwa, and others, is currently dominating the Indian box office. In its first week, the movie in India brought in almost Rs 280 crores nett, and it continues to grow even in its second weekend. However, OMG 2, directed by Amit Rai and starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam, is not performing as well commercially as Gadar 2. Both movies are great hits, but the Sunny Deol-starring one grosses more than three times as much money. These two movies’ box office results eerily resemble those of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Lagaan from 2001.
Gadar 2 Versus OMG 2 Is Comparable To Gadar Versus Lagaan
Gadar: The fight between Ek Prem Katha and Lagaan was one of the most anticipated in Hindi film history. Both movies had great success, but Gadar was by far the bigger hit. In fact, it ranks among the ten greatest hits of all time. The movie made approximately Rs 77 crores nett in 2001 and sold over 5 crore tickets throughout its run in India. On the other hand, Lagaan made little more than Rs 34 crores net in India and sold close to 1.8 crore tickets. In the same way as OMG 2 received better reviews, Lagaan in 2001 also received favorable reviews. Unlike Lagaan and OMG 2, which were made largely for audiences in metropolises and large cities, Gadar was intended to appeal to a wider diaspora of viewers.
Gadar: Ek Prem Katha made a statement in 2001, and in 2023, Gadar: The Katha makes a similar assertion.
The fact that both Gadar movies cater to viewers who have been ignored by Hindi filmmakers for a while is the reason for their enormous popularity. Today’s movies are designed to appeal to a narrow segment of the public, but a filmmaker’s goal should always be to reach as many people as possible. Making movies for a certain segment of the audience is perfectly acceptable, but filmmakers who are able to appeal to a larger audience should do so as well because there is a sizable audience that is willing to pay for movies that are both worth their time and money.
