ECP’s election decision
Sadiq Sanjrani, the Senate’s chairman, defended a recent calling it a “consensus decision” of all members of the recently disbanded coalition government. He insisted that the general elections would only take place after new delimitations.
The Senate chairman assured reporters on Saturday at the tomb of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah that there is “no uncertainty” regarding the upcoming elections and that the only thing that could delay the process for a few months is the constitutional requirements.
When questioned about his opinions on the uncertainties surrounding the staging of general elections this year, he responded, “Let me tell you that election would be held and it would be held on time, and when I say timely, it means after the fresh delimitation.”
The ECP will declare the date for the upcoming general elections as soon as the delimitation operation is finished, and they will be held on that day. The country ought to continue to be happy, he continued.

The government ‘unanimously’ authorised the 2023 digital census results at the Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting just a few days before the National Assembly was dissolved, Mr. Sanjrani said. However, the government was aware of the consequences of this decision.
When asked about his role in the face of political unpredictability and economic difficulties, the Senate chairman stated that “the upper house of the parliament is present as the representative of all the federating units of Pakistan” and that “it all the four provinces of the country during the tenure of the caretaker government.”

President is chosen
In response to a query about the election of the president, Mr. Sanjrani stated that the current president’s term would end on September 9 even if the constitution allows for leniency for the continuation of the departing president until the election of a new president.
“The National Assembly and all four provincial assemblies would be formed following the country’s general election, creating the electoral college for the presidential election. The election for the next president would then undoubtedly take place as well, he continued.
