It is noteworthy that this attack occurred just a few weeks after the deadly suicide bombing in Bajaur, which claimed the lives of at least 63 people, including 23 children, and injured over 200 others.

Al Jazeera reports that the Islamic State group took responsibility for the explosion.

An electoral rally in Pakistan’s border district of Bajaur was the target of the bombing.

As about 400 members of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) party, a prominent government coalition partner led by hardline leader Fazlur Rehman, awaited the commencement of the speeches, a bomber detonated an explosives-packed vest close to the stage.

When JUI-F members and sympathisers gathered in the town of Khar, close to the Afghan border, the suicide bomber set off explosives. According to the officials, the convention began at 2 pm, and the explosion occurred around 4:10 pm.

According to a report published in July, suicide strikes have been steadily increasing in Pakistan. According to a research by a think group, there were 18 suicide attacks in Pakistan in the first seven months of 2023, which resulted in 200 fatalities and more than 450 injuries.

Asim Munir, the chief of the Pakistani army, recently warned terrorists to surrender to the “writ of state of Pakistan before they are decimated” and claimed that the recent upsurge in terrorism was a “futile effort” by them to resume negotiations.
