Imran Khan’s cell in the Attock jail
Facilities accessible under 257, 771 of 1978 regulations, according to spokesman.
Khan’s safety was ensured by CCTV cameras placed outside his cell.
Khan’s allegations about the jail’s conditions were deemed “genuine” by ADSJ.
A new bathroom with five-foot-high walls and a door has been built for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Attock Jail, according to a spokeswoman for the Punjab Prisons Department (PPD) on Tuesday.
The former prime minister’s cell was inspected by Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ), Attock Shafquat Ullah Khan, who considered the former leader’s objections and worries about his living conditions, particularly the lack of privacy in the bathroom, to be “genuine.” This led to the spokesperson’s clarification.
According to the PPD spokesperson’s statement, the PTI leader has access to all amenities covered by sections 257 and 771 of the Pakistan Prisons sections, 1978.
A new bathroom was built in the cell of the PTI chairman, the spokesperson claimed in response to complaints that there was no privacy in the restroom.
He claimed, “The walls of the washroom are kept five feet high and a door is also installed,” and he added that a western commode and wash basin have also been installed in the washroom.
Khan was convicted of corrupt acts in the Toshakhana case earlier this month and is now serving a three-year sentence in Attock Jail.
According to the judge’s findings, which were published on Monday and put together on August 15, Khan expressed “grave concerns” about the invasion of his privacy and the general living conditions within the prison during his visit.
He had serious worries about a CCTV camera that was placed in front of his prison bars, around five to six feet away, and that was watching an open latrine.
The representative stated that the CCTV cameras were placed outside the room when speaking about them.
“For Imran Khan’s security and the security of the jail, CCTV cameras have been mounted outside his chamber. In addition to District Jail Attock, other jails in Punjab have more than 4,000 CCTV cameras installed for security reasons, the statement continued.
Along with a bed, pillows, mattresses, tables, chairs, air conditioners, and exhaust fans, he added that amenities like bath soap, perfume, air freshener, towels, and tissue papers had been provided.
Furthermore, he stated that Khan had five doctors assigned to him, one of whom was always on call, and that “special” food was only delivered to Khan after it had been approved by doctors.
The representative continued, “Fruits, honey, dates, a prayer mat, the Quran, and books have also been distributed.”
According to the article, Khan also complained that his wife and lawyers did not have easy access to him; however, the spokesperson claimed that the PTI chairman meets with his family every Tuesday and his lawyers every Thursday.
Bushra Bibi, Khan’s wife, expressed worry last week that her husband would be “poisoned” while incarcerated in District Jail Attock.
Imran’s wife requested the ex-PM’s transfer from District Jail Attock to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail in a letter dated August 17 written to the Punjab home secretary and expressed concern that he would be poisoned in custody. The letter claimed that the ex-prime minister had previously been attacked twice and that one of those attacks resulted in a gunshot wound to his torso.
In a similar event, the PTI Core Committee meeting drew attention to the views of Additional District and Sessions Judge Shafqut Ullah Khan, who’verified the harsh treatment being meted out to him in Attock Jail.’ The findings, according to the PTI, supports their claims that the PTI chairman was exposed to cruel and unlawful treatment in the Attock prison.
In the meantime, acting Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti insisted on Geo News’ “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath” show that the PTI leader was given privileges in accordance with the jail class he applied for and was permitted to receive guests. The Punjab government and jail authorities would be questioned by Bugti over other concerns noted in the inspection report, such as the CCTV camera.
“We will make sure that Imran receives all the amenities and prison classification that he (Imran) sought for and is due as the former prime minister under the law. He has a bed and is given newspapers, as far as I know, but he would only receive the amenities that the applicable laws permit.
