Vice Chancellor of the GCUF dies
An oil tanker struck Prof. Shahid Kamal’s vehicle as he was traveling from Lahore to Faisalabad.
FAISALABAD: Prof. Dr. Shahid Kamal, the vice chancellor of the Government College University of Faisalabad, passed away on Monday in a car crash close to the Sahianwala Interchange (Motorway M-4).
According to the Motorway Police, Prof. Kamal was traveling from Lahore to Faisalabad when his car’s tire broke.
An oil tanker struck the back of his car as it started to waver at a reduced speed.
Prof. Kamal and the driver of the car both sustained serious injuries.
They were moved to the Allied Hospital by a rescue crew, where the VC succumbed to his injuries. The driver was receiving treated at the time of his survival.
In a cemetery in Lahore, Prof. Dr. Shahid Kamal would be laid to rest.
Dr. Imran Muslim, a university spokesman, announced that the university’s academic operations would be postponed until March 15.
The university’s administration was mourned by the teachers and students with deep sorrow.
On July 24, 2019, Prof. Dr. Shahid Kamal assumed the vice chancellor position at Government College University Faisalabad.
He was a statistics academic who was well-known throughout the world. He received his PhD in applied biostatistics from the University of Exeter in Devon, UK, and has more than 30 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration in a variety of statistical applications, including applied biostatistics, experiment design and analysis, regression and econometrics, business statistics, computer applications, and programming.
At the University of the Punjab in Lahore, where he previously held the positions of dean, director, and professor, he also helped launch numerous master’s degree programs.
He created numerous institutes and centers, such as the Statistical Databank and the Operation Research Centre.
He wrote two books and numerous research articles that were published in respected local, national, and worldwide magazines.
Prof. Dr. Qaiser Abbas, the vice chancellor of the University of Sargodha (UoS), had expressed sorrow and grief at Prof. Kamal’s passing.
The UoS VC said in a news release on Monday that Prof. Dr. Shahid Kamal was a fantastic administrator, researcher, teacher, and person. He was also smart, skilled, and great-natured.
His passing left a significant hole in the academic community that would never be filled.
He prayed for Allah Almighty to grant the grieving family patience and to provide the departed soul eternal peace.
