LAHORE: The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has issued a show-cause notice to the management of a private hospital for performing two named women’s botched procedures and has ordered the suspension of all types of surgeries and the operating room services.
The two patients, both with the last name Kausar Parveen, were transported to the Independent Hospital in Faisalabad from various parts of the district, according to a PHC spokesperson. While the other was admitted to the hospital for knee surgery, one of them needed to have a gallbladder operation.
Although they had different surnames on their CNICs, he said that the house officer, Dr. Hassan, did not take their paperwork into consideration when creating the surgery list. He continued by saying that the equally careless surgeon, Prof. Dr. Awais Shuja, performed the failed operations on the list without according to the surgical department’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).
A two-person PHC inquiry team visited the hospital and took notes on the patients’ and doctors’ comments as part of the investigation.
According to the findings, the PHC has discontinued all surgical and OT services with the exception of life-threatening situations, he stated. According to the spokesman, other factors contributing to the surgical error were the absence of current patient culture and sensitivity data as well as the placement of operation tables in an area where numerous procedures are being performed at once without any physical separation.
Additionally, until further orders, the PHC has suspended all of Prof. Awais Shuja’s services. In order to take further action regarding the medical malpractice, the commission has also given the hospital management a show-cause notice.
According to official sources, one of the patients had also questioned the medical staff about tagging her knee and telling them she was going to have a gallbladder operation.
They claimed that the hospital was no longer permitted to handle patients under the Sehat Card program.
