Plot
National wrestling champion resides in Balali, Haryana. His typical Indian father makes him give up the sport so he may get a job that pays well. Dejected that he could not bring home a medal for his nation, he makes a promise that his unborn child will. Having four daughters disappoints him, and he gives up. However, when his older daughters Geeta and Babita return home after assaulting two boys in retaliation for disparaging remarks, dad recognizes their wrestling potential and starts coaching them.

His techniques are severe; they include strenuous morning workouts and short, forced haircuts. Despite opposition from the villagers, he continues to train them in his improvised mud pit. The daughters initially dislike their father for how he treats them but soon come to understand that he is concerned about their future. They enter wrestling competitions voluntarily and compete against males because they are motivated. Mahavir teaches them in freestyle wrestling on mattresses because he cannot afford to buy wrestling mats for them in order to get them ready for competitive competitions. Before going to the National Sports Academy in Patiala to prepare for the next Commonwealth Games,

Once there, under pressure from her coach Pramod Kadam, whose training regimen and wrestling strategies are entirely different from those of her father, Geeta makes friends and starts to violate the discipline imposed by Mahavir. She thus loses each match she plays in at the international level. She defeats a visibly worn-out Mahavir in a fierce fight while on a visit to her home after egotistically ridiculing him. Geeta is reminded by Babita of her error and the need to respect Mahavir. Soon after, Babita takes Geeta to the academy after winning the national title. Geeta makes peace with Mahavir through tears after the two sisters have an emotional talk in which Babita offers her encouragement.

In order to compete in the 51 kg weight class rather than her regular 55 kg weight division before the Commonwealth Games, Pramod compels Geeta. This angers Mahavir, who decides to visit Patiala with his nephew Omkar and start instructing the females covertly. When Pramod learns of this and becomes enraged by Mahavir’s intervention, he demands that the girls be dismissed; however, the sports authority only gives a warning and permits them to carry on. The females are not allowed to leave the house, and Mahavir is not allowed to enter the academy. Geeta’s prior unsuccessful matches are recorded, and Mahavir, determined to help his daughters, tutors her by calling her and pointing out her mistakes.

Geeta easily advances to the final in the games while competing in the 55 kg division. Mahavir, who is watching from the audience, repeatedly defies Pramod’s orders, but she obeys those of her father. Just prior to the gold medal match, Mahavir is locked in a room by Pramod out of resentment.

Geeta manages to win and a 1-5 deficit, she remembers the strategies her father had taught her and makes a 5-pointer on her opponent in the final three seconds to make the score 6-5 in her favor and win the session and the match 2-1. She does this by being. Pramod’s aspirations of getting attention from the media are dashed when Mahavir arrives just in time to embrace his daughters.
